Looking for a lightweight and eco-friendly bag for summer outings? The Net Tote Bag in Daol is a breezy crochet project made with Korean paper yarn — perfect for markets, beach days, or everyday use with a stylish twist.
The Design
For this project I am using the Net Tote Bag pattern from Olga Panagopoulou’s Book, Radiant Raffia.
The Net Tote Bag is a versatile bag that has many uses: it can be used as a large project bag, a shopping bag, and of course as a beach bag!
It is a large bag that features a modern and stylish openwork geometric stitch pattern. The design is worked from the bottom up and seamlessly, in rounds. It uses basic crochet stitches and it is easy to follow the instructions step-by-step, making this a beginner friendly project.
Instructions are provided in written abbreviated format. The book contains photo tutorials that explain particular stitches and every technique necessary to make any project in the book.
The Project
For making this bag, I used the 100% Korean paper yarn, Daol.
Figuring out what color of Daol to use for this project was not difficult. Daol comes in an array of gorgeous saturated colorways, but there is one color that definitely caught my eye from the beginning: color 254. This is a deep chocolate brown color with rich warm undertones. I rarely use brown in my projects, but I found this shade so beautiful, could not resist using it!
Color often motivates me to work on a new project and this case was no exception. I finished this project quite fast. It is a large bag, but because the main feature is an openwork mesh pattern, work grows quickly once you reach the Body section.
The crisp stitch definition of Daol works very well together with this pattern: the lines are well defined and there is good structure. I also really like the contrast between the open spaces and strongly defined lines of the mesh pattern.
It was very fun working on this easy summer project, and it definitely made me interested in making more patterns from this book, all of which can be worked with Daol. The designs are fresh and modern and definitely give a feeling of being on an island in Greece!
