Metallic Free Cord is a highly lustrous yarn made from 73% rayon, 14% nylon, and 13% Washi (Japanese paper), creating a striking shimmering effect with excellent shine. The core of the yarn consists of a stiff strand of Washi paper wrapped in a thin layer of shiny rayon – an unusual construction that gives the yarn its distinctive structure and appearance.

The yarn can feel quite slippery on the ball, but this is no longer noticeable once it is worked into stitches. While the yarn feels stiff when worked, washing transforms the finished fabric, making it significantly softer and more drapey.

This combination of structure, shine, and drape makes Metallic Free Cord suitable for lightweight garments, accessories, bags, and jewellery.

The pictured gauge swatch was machine-washed (wool program at 30°C) and steam ironed (with a pressing cloth!).
