Spike single crochet
Insert the tip of the hook one row/round below the next stitch. Work a single crochet and pull the yarn tightly.
Pattern Notes
Each motif is worked in the round, always in the same direction. Simple crochet stitches are used to create the heart shape. The motifs can be used individually as appliqués or joined together to create a larger fabric. Alternatively, two motifs can be sewn together with a little stuffing to create a soft, three-dimensional heart.
Directions
Note: The chain stitches at the start of each round do not count as a stitch.
Begin with sliding loop.
Round 1: ch 1, sc 7 in loop, join with sl st. (1 ch + 7 sts)
Round 2: ch 1, sc 1, (hdc 2 and dc 1) in next st, (tr 3 and dc 1) in next st, sl st, (dc 1 and tr 3) in next st, (dc 1 and hdc 2) in next st, sc 1, join with sl st. (1 ch + 17 sts)
Round 3: ch 1, sc 4, (sc 2 in next st) 3 times, sl st, spike sc, sl st, (sc 2 in next st) 3 times, sc 4, join with sl st. (1 ch + 23 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a 10 cm/ 4 inches tail.
Finishing
Wash and iron or steam to measurements. Weave in ends.
